Why ?
Nepal’s smallholder farmers are at the frontlines of climate change, soil degradation, and market volatility. Conventional agricultural systems — reliant on chemical inputs and monocultures — often fail to provide resilience, biodiversity, or long-term income security. To address these challenges, Kathmandu Organics and Sanskriti Farms are proud to introduce the Living Forest Initiative — a transformative, farmer-centric program that promotes food forests as a regenerative and economically viable alternative to conventional farming. The initiative empowers farmers with holistic support: from planting to market access.
What?
The Living Forest Initiative is an end-to-end service platform that helps farmers transition to food forest systems—diverse, layered agroforestry ecosystems inspired by natural forests. These systems are designed to produce fruits, herbs, vegetables, timber, and medicinal plants year-round, while restoring soil health and biodiversity. The initiative will introduce a carefully curated and climate-adapted collection of high-yield fruit trees and herbs produced by Sankriti Farms and Research Centre — trialed, grafted, and tested for performance in Nepal’s mid-hill regions. Our varieties are selected not only for flavor and productivity, but also for resilience and adaptability to ensure long-term sustainability for local farmers and orchard owners.
